WHO KNEW?

Greg Norton, a nonroster invitee, has some pretty good credentials as a pinch-hitter, considered by many to be baseball's toughest job. The outfielder's 41 pinch-hit RBIs since 2001 are tops in the majors. His nine home runs are second and 58 hits third.

MEDICAL MATTERS

No one will say for sure if left-hander Mark Hendrickson (right femur bruise) is on track to pitch once spring games begin.

WATCH FOR

Right-hander Shinji Mori, who made such a solid impression Wednesday pitching his first live batting practice, that he takes the mound again today.

THUMBS UP

The drill isn't exactly rocket science (you field the ball and throw it), but Aubrey Huff looked very confident at third base during work on bunt coverages, even calling off pitchers in order to make plays.

THUMBS DOWN

The fog never lifted. At times during batting practice, it was thick enough to watch rolling across the outfield. The slightly chilly breeze didn't help either.

HE SAID IT

"I've got to talk to Zim about it, the Yoda of all." - manager JOE MADDON on senior adviser DON ZIMMER's knowledge of bunting.
