If you wish to welcome the Florida National Guard soldiers home, Sunday is the day.
The public is invited to line the streets and wave flags outside the National Guard Armory on Sunday. People should be in place by 1:30 p.m., organizers say.
The soldiers will arrive by bus at the armory, 8861 W Venable St., Crystal River, in time for a 2 p.m. private welcome home ceremony.
More than 120 members of the 690th Military Police Company of the Florida National Guard will be honored during the ceremony.
The unit originally deployed under Operation Enduring Freedom in December 2004, and served a year at Baghram Air Force Base in Afghanistan providing security and guarding prisoners.
The unit arrived in Savannah, Ga., Wednesday and is undergoing demobilization at Fort Stewart.
The 690th, activated in November 2003, is one of the Florida Guard's newest units and its only military police unit.
