Stevie Thomas, who won four Arena Football League titles with the Storm, was named football coach at Boca Ciega High on Friday. Thomas, the school's resource officer, replaces Jean Gordon, who resigned last week. Thomas said he was "kind of shocked at first" that he was hired. He has limited coaching experience, working in area youth leagues and as receivers coach in 1995 for Gordon. But principal John Leanes said he and Gordon went through all the applicants and "Stevie was who we were both most comfortable with."

REMEMBERING A LEGEND: The sportscasting career of Curt Gowdy, who died Monday, will be celebrated today and Sunday on XM Satellite Radio. The one-hour show, which will air several times on Ch. 175, will include Gowdy's calls of Ted Williams' final at-bat (a homer) in 1960, the final out of the 1969 World Series and Reggie Jackson's home run in the 1971 All-Star game.
