Scholarships, grants up for grabs

The GFWC Clearwater Junior Woman's Club is accepting applications for the Mary Clark and Joseph Clark Memorial Scholarships and Helping Hands Community Grants. Five Mary Clark Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded, along with one $1,000 Joseph Clark Memorial Scholarship.

The Mary Clark Scholarships go to students attending high school or college in Florida while overcoming some adversity. Considerations are academic performance, financial need and community service.

The Joseph Clark Memorial Scholarship goes to students who have overcome adversity and need the money to continue their education. Requirements are similar, but less emphasis is placed on community service. Applications must be received by March 31.

Also, four Helping Hands Community Grants, up to $2,500 each, will go to local charitable and social service organizations to help start new programs or to improve existing facilities and services. Grant applicants must identify a specific need or program for the funding.

The club will consider applicants based on need, the program's community impact and programs that fall within the club's six focus areas: arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs, and public affairs. Grant applications must be received by April 3.

The club will present the awards, totalling $16,000, at banquet May 10. Applications can be obtained through the club's Web site at www.ClearwaterJuniors.org or by calling 723-0888.
