Which was the bigger disappointment: Canadian hockey in 2006 or American basketball in 2004?
Puerto Rico was almost a state in the United States. Puerto Rico has a population around 4-million. Puerto Rico is way, way smaller than Florida.
Puerto Rico defeated America 92-73 in basketball during the 2004 Olympics.
How about laziness (particularly on defense)? Or blind, arrogant, lack of skill?
The NBA has become a game of slashing, fastbreaks and shortcuts, overly concerned with marketing shoes.
Not all of the premier NBA players were at the 2004 Summer Games, but enough were (see Allen Iverson and Tim Duncan).
Bottom line: After Athens the invincibility of American basketball has been wiped away, and other nations now see American basketball, particularly the NBA, for the mess that it is.
More embarrassing than Canadian hockey?
C'mon, are we Americans or what?
No excuse. No excuse at all.
