Citrus rode just one hit to a 7-3 Class 4A, District 6 victory over Dunnellon on Tuesday night.
Citrus' Jillian Couillard (4-2) allowed seven hits, one walk and struck out four. Dunnellon's Sasha Reece took the loss.
It was the first district loss for Dunnellon (5-4, 3-1 in 4A-6). Citrus moves to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in district play.
Citrus' Krystal Boardman and Ashley Hoglund each scored a pair of runs and stole two bases. Boardman also ended the game by grabbing a high line drive at shortstop.
"We are so much more disciplined and that's what we needed," said Boardman, who is enjoying a successful senior season. "We have a lot better defense. We talk a lot more. It's a lot more fun when you win."
Citrus scored four runs in the first inning. Janea Thaler reached on a walk and stole second and third. Boardman was hit by a Reece pitch and stole second. Hoglund reached on an error and Thaler scored. One out later, Brittany Eldridge singled to score Boardman and Hoglund.
Boardman led off the third inning reaching third on an outfield error. Hoglund walked and stole second. Couillard drove in Boardman on a fielder's choice. One out later, Kelsey Keating dropped a perfect bunt to score Hoglund. Katie Grumen, pinch running for Couillard, scored on a wild pitch.
Dunnellon's Lauren Burns singled in Becky Seeber in the second inning. Reece tripled in two runs in the sixth.
"We are going to run and try to bunt and make things happen," Citrus coach Butch Miller said. "Outstanding job (by Couillard). She kept the ball down. She had a new catcher (Erin Arpke). She went out and threw the changeup. She kept them off balance. We are very happy with our defense."
