A teenager was knocked unconscious and slashed in the face during an armed robbery in his back yard near southeast Seminole Heights on Monday afternoon, and the two charged in the crime live three blocks away.
The victim, 15, was inside the fenced outdoor area of his home, 1505 E Cayuga St. shortly after 3 p.m. when two brothers, Lazaro M. Sierra and Paul C. Sierra, came onto the property, according to a Tampa police report.
The Sierra brothers hit the teen from behind with an unknown object, knocking him out, police said. After they took a cell phone and a knife from his pockets, the teen regained consciousness and struggled, according to police. Lazaro Sierra, 26, cut the teen on the face and ran off with his brother, 21.
One officer got to the victim's home, got a description of the armed robbers and relayed the information to two other officers in the area. One officer saw Paul Sierra walking a couple of blocks away and arrested him.
Lazaro Sierra tried to run from officers, but was quickly caught, according to the police report.
The teen was treated at Tampa General Hospital and released.
The Sierra brothers are each charged with armed robbery and armed burglary of a dwelling that involves an assault, felonies. Tuesday, they were held without bail in the Orient Road Jail.
