WHO KNEW?

Right-hander Jamie Shields, who pitched a perfect second inning in the intrasquad game, draws the No. 25 on the back of the mound before each game in honor of childhood friend Nolan LeMar, killed in a 2001 car crash.

THUMBS UP

Perhaps the tallest bat boys to ever work a game were on the job as 6-foot-9 right-hander Jeff Niemann and 6-9 lefty Mark Hendrickson picked up and delivered bats during the intrasquad game.

THUMBS DOWN

Outfielder Darnell McDonald was caught stealing twice, once by catcher Mike Rose and once by Ryan Christianson.

WATCH FOR

Everything. Today is the final day of camp at the Naimoli Complex. The team moves to Progress Energy Park on Thursday.

HE SAID IT

"Sometimes, to teach an old dog new tricks is difficult. So as opposed to trying to get people to walk more, we're going to try to get people to strike out less. That's our game plan." - manager JOE MADDON.

MEDICAL MATTERS

Utility player Luis Rivas wore a bulky ice pack on his right hand after the intrasquad game but said the right forefinger clipped by a pitch was fine.
