Bush rewards leaders who are fiscally responsible

The "diss on Tampa" you say we received from Gov. Bush ("What's Brewing," June 9, 2006) cannot be a partisan bias because Mayor Pam Iorio is not officially a Democrat. The office is considered "nonpartisan," as are the City Council seats.

It is clear that Gov. Bush is rewarding fiscally responsible city leaders in the state, and Mayor Iorio has illustrated a serious lack in money sense toward our fair city. We don't need more museums with overpaid administrators and costly river walks as much as we need our roads repaired and our drainage problem addressed. I am reminded of this need every time I drive on Bayshore Boulevard and watch SUVs plow through flooded streets creating a wake to damage homes and landscaping.

Looking to Jim Davis to make a few friends, as you put it, might be misplaced optimism. If elected, he will probably be as impotent a governor as he has been a congressman.

Don't expect Jeb Bush to compromise his character by letting the next head of state deal with irresponsible decisions. Unlike President Clinton, who pardoned some of the worst criminals as his last act before leaving the White House, Gov. Bush knows that what he does today will affect the constituents tomorrow.
