Patriots get ugly victory

Published Nov. 27, 2006

After the Patriots turned it over three times inside the Chicago 20, Ben Watson caught a 2-yard go-ahead touchdown.

The Bears capitalized on Charles Tillman's second interception of the game to tie it at 10 on Cedric Benson's 2-yard run.

The Patriots answered with a 73-yard drive. On third and 3 from their 34, Tom Brady scrambled then hit Watson for 40 yards. Brady later converted third downs by scrambling for 11 and 3 yards. Two plays after the second scramble, he hit Watson.

Down four, the Bears got a chance to win after Alex Brown recovered Corey Dillon's fumble, (the Patriots' fifth turnover) at the Bears 22 with 1:52 left. But Asante Samuel got his third interception of the game (Chicago's fourth turnover) on the next play.

NOTABLE: The Patriots had failed to score on only 5 of 39 trips inside the opponents' 20 going in. But Brady was intercepted and Laurence Maroney fumbled in the first quarter, and Watson fumbled in the third.
