Providence hands GW first loss

Sharaud Curry scored a career-high 27 and Herbert Hill added 20 points and 20 rebounds Sunday to spark Providence past formerly unbeaten George Washington, 86-67.

Providence (3-1) had split with George Washington (4-1) twice in their only other meetings. The Friars ended the Colonials' 22-game regular season active winning streak, the longest in the nation.

NO. 18 UCONN 86, ALBANY 55: Freshman Gavin Edwards scored 16 to help the Huskies (5-0) extend their home winning streak to 24 games. Thirteen Huskies played and six scored in double figures.


ARKANSAS 71, WEST VIRGINIA 64: Sonny Weems scored 19 and Charles Thomas added 13, helping the Razorbacks (5-0) to victory in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista. Arkansas led by 16 with 5:34 left, but the Mountaineers (5-1) got within four on a 3-pointer by DaSean Butler with 47 seconds to go.


VIRGINIA 104, MD.-EASTERN SHORE 63: J.R. Reynolds and Jason Cain each scored 22 to lead the host Cavaliers (4-0) over the Hawks in the first meeting between the teams.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 69, VIRGINIA TECH 64: Jamal Tatum hit a 3-pointer and Matt Shaw added two free throws in the final seconds in the fifth-place game of the Old Spice Classic against the Hokies (3-2).


MONTANA 72, MINN. 65: Andrew Strait scored 17 and Jordan Hasquet had 14 to lead the Grizzlies past the Gophers (2-4) in the seventh-place game of the Old Spice Classic.

WYOMING 76, COLORADO 73: Daaron Brown had a clutch three-point play and Brandon Ewing scored 29 to lead the visiting Cowboys (4-1).
