A 38-year-old man is scheduled to face trial today in the attempted murder of a former girlfriend. Prosecutors say Willie Andre Haynes met up with Catina Washington at a Sept. 17, 2005, party, where he saw her talking to an ex-boyfriend. When Haynes accompanied Washington back to her apartment, authorities say, he attacked her. He is accused of stabbing her with a screwdriver, beating her with a wood plank, pouring nail polish remover and rubbing alcohol on her, and throwing a lit match at her. Washington was able to smother the flames with a blanket but suffered puncture wounds and burns. Haynes has a Florida criminal record dating to 1987, including charges of burglary, aggravated assault on a police officer, battery and domestic violence, records show.
