Music/art/theater

- High school students are welcome to audition for the Ticket To Broadway Variety Show at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11 at Richey Suncoast Theatre on Grand Boulevard in New Port Richey. Those auditioning should use the material they plan on using in the show. Musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, etc. are encouraged to audition. Last year's event, sponsored by the Pasco Education Foundation and Richey Suncoast Theatre, raised $8,500 in scholarship money for students seeking a degree in the performing arts.

Corporate sponsorships are available for $300 and include the company name and/or logo in the playbill and 10 choice seat tickets to any of the three shows.

Contests/scholarships

- The Florida Association for Home and Community Education is looking for some creative new recipes for the 2007 Kumquat Festival Recipe Contest. The contest is open to youths (ages 8 to 18) and adults. A completed entry form with the recipe must be received by 5 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Pasco County Extension Office, 36702 State Road 52, Dade City, FL 33525-5198. The finished product will be received between noon and 1 p.m. Jan. 19. Judging will be from noon to 5 p.m. Cash and prizes will be awarded at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at the National Guard Armory, Dade City. Briefs

The Mitchell High Football Boosters are sponsoring a Holiday Bazaar Extravaganza from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the school gym and cafeteria, 2323 Little Road, New Port Richey. There will be lots of gifts for sale, concessions, door prizes and entertainment.
