Parenting Skills Classes: Hillsborough County's Children's Services Department continues its class, "Systematic Training for Effective Parenting." Topics include improving communication skills and understanding behavior and discipline. The Parent's Handbook by Dinkmeyer and McKay is required for the class, and there is a $36 registration fee due on the first day. The two remaining classes are Saturday through Jan. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Family Support & Resource Center, 7520 W Waters Ave., Suite 8, Tampa; and Monday through Dec. 14, from 6:20 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Brandon High School, 1101 Victoria St., Brandon. Family Christmas Festival: The University of Tampa holds its Family Christmas Festival. Medical Service Day: Mercy Medical Wellness Center holds a free medical service day. It is offering free specific age and gender physical exams, HIV testing, blood pressure screenings and weight loss evaluations. StandUp For Kids: StandUp For Kids-Tampa holds a scramble golf tournament to raise money to help feed and assist local homeless youth in the Tampa Bay area. Entry includes 18 holes at The Claw, range balls, on course contests, chicken and ribs buffet, player gift bag and prizes. Tree Lighting: The Hillsborough County Commission and the Friends of the County Parks will hold the fifth annual Holiday Tree Lighting Festival. The event features a 34-foot Christmas tree and a musical performance, "Santa's Grand New Christmas Tree." Entertainment provided by local dancers, school chorus groups, a Hillsborough County Firefighters Quartet and the Gaither High School Marching Cowboys.
