Shannon Brooks resigned as Canterbury coach, but will still be calling plays next fall.
Brooks, 30, left the Crusaders to become assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Lakewood.
"I think it's a bigger opportunity to play more meaningful games faster," Brooks said. "Canterbury is still growing, and I'll always be grateful they gave me my first head coaching job. But I'm excited about going to Lakewood. Hopefully we can bring (the program) to the next step."
Brooks, a former St. Petersburg Catholic assistant, took over at Canterbury in 2005 in the program's inaugural season. The Crusaders went 1-5, but this season finished 4-2.
"He turned the Canterbury program around," Lakewood coach Otis Dixon said. "When you can get a quality coach who wants to come in and help improve your program, I think you need to jump at it."
