Appraiser will explain how her office works

Melanie Hensley, Citrus County property appraiser, is available to speak to clubs and organizations about how her department assesses value to real estate and tangible personal property, exemptions and possibility of exemption portability.

Specific questions about the office should be submitted in writing prior to the meeting date. Members are welcome to ask questions about their property but answers will not be provided at the meeting.

Hensley will research the question and respond in writing or by phone.

Want to adopt a cat or a kitten? Get ready

Humanitarians of Florida and Home at Last Pet Adoptions will conduct a cat and kitten adoptions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 at Manchester House, 1149 Conant Ave. Many exotic and domestic breeds will be represented. All have been spayed or neutered, are current on shots and have tested negative for feline leukemia and feline AIDS.

All have been wormed and given flea control. Many have been microchipped and some are declawed. A donation fee is required for each pet, tax deductible as allowed by law.

Elks will hold service for departed members

The Inverness Elks Lodge 2522 will conduct its annual memorial service for departed members at 1 p.m. Sunday at the lodge, 3580 E Lemon St.

Widows of the past year will be guests of the lodge.

The Does Drove 232 will perform their Elks Rest service as well. The public is invited.


Herbicides to be used for weed control

The Department of Environmental Protection will conduct aquatic weed control operations from Monday to Dec. 22 in Lake Rousseau using the EPA-approved herbicides Reward, Aquathol K and Aquastar.

The water should not be used for domestic purposes or for irrigation for five days in Reward-treated areas and for 14 days in Aquathol- treated areas.

Also, in Reward-treated areas, there should be no livestock watering for one day and water should not be used for drinking (does not apply to tap water) for two days.

There are no restrictions in Aquastar-treated areas.

Signs displaying treatment dates and restrictions will be posted in treated areas.

Scheduled treatments may be canceled due to environmental conditions. Call 726-8622.


Citrus United Basket accepts yule signups

Citrus United Basket will accept registration for Christmas assistance, both food and toys, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 14 at the CUB office, 103 Mills St.

Participants must bring Social Security cards for all adults of the household and either shot records or a birth certificate for each child.

Assistance will not be provided without these documents. Children must reside in the home to qualify for toys.

Christmas food assistance is available without children living in the home. Call CUB at 344-2242.
