Rockin' rolls

More than 50 roller skaters, including two-time world dance champions Adam White and Melissa Quinn, will perform in Rock and Roll Into the Holidays, the Florida Skating Academy's annual show.

The 90-minute show will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 10.

"The show has sold out for the past two years," said Angela Serini, publicist for the Florida Skating Academy. Serini recommends buying tickets in advance, since many people who tried to buy them on the day of the show last year were unable to do so.

"We only sell 500 tickets," Serini said. And there's only one performance this year, too.

White and Ms. Quinn won the gold medal in 2000 and won it again at the 2001 world finals in Florence, Italy. The duo won the silver medal in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2003, then retired to become full-time coaching professionals at Spinnations.

The show also features several skaters who compete in USA Rollersports, the business name of the USA Amateur Confederation of Roller Skating.

That includes U.S. free dance silver medalists Nick Rock and Kristin Uhrig of the Reflections Skating Club in Kissimmee; U.S. dance bronze medalists Cameron Miller and Caroline Bell; U.S. singles bronze medalist Michelle Moudy; and the U.S. singles champion, John Burchfield.

The rock-themed holiday show will include a roller skating dance to Old Time Rock & Roll by the center's morning adult public session skaters. That number features Jo An and Dennis Turner of Port Richey.

Twenty-three of the skating center's students will perform to Jingle Bell Rock; 15 Florida Skating Academy club members will perform to a medley of rock 'n' roll tunes from the 1950s and 1960s like Johnny B. Goode, Twist and Shout and Dancing in the Street.

Also in the show are U.S. silver medalist Tabatha Clark and bronze medalist Holly Miller, who will join forces to skate-dance to the title song from Grease.

Nine-year-old Katarina Linger, who holds the U.S. bronze medal, will skate to Santa Claus Boogie.
