WRIGHT, TAYLOR STILL NOT CLOSE ON REMATCH

MAKING NEWS

Winky Wright fights Saturday. Jermain Taylor fights the week after. The situation has many thinking that if the two emerge victorious, it sets up for a spring rematch of their controversial draw in June. But that possibility seems to dim every day. On a conference call promoting his June 9 fight against Kassim Ouma, Taylor reiterated that he will not accept the 50-50 purse split on which Wright is insisting. Lou DiBella, who promotes Taylor and Wright's opponent Saturday at the St. Pete Tims Forum, Ike Quartey, doesn't think either fighter will bend. "I can promise you they will never fight at 50-50," he said. "It will never happen. We're not budging." But some promising news came out of Taylor's call: Trainer Emanuel Steward did say the fighter could stay at middleweight for the rest of the year after saying he planned to move to the 168-pound class. Either way, Wright's trainer, Dan Birmingham, said his fighter would meet Taylor at any weight class. Boxing, 10C
