No. 8 Marquette in tournament final

Ousmane Barro had a career-high 21 points and tied a personal best with 13 rebounds to help No. 8 Marquette beat Northwestern State 83-67 in the Blue & Gold Classic on Friday night.

Dominic James scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half and Wes Matthews finished with 14 points for Marquette (8-0), which will play North Dakota State in the championship game of the four-team tournament today. North Dakota State beat Princeton 57-50 earlier Friday.

Barro also blocked three shots.

Colby Bargeman led Northwestern State (4-3) with 17 points.

The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 14-0 run to open a 50-32 lead.

The Demons pulled within eight three times in the second half, the last coming on a Bargeman basket that made it 64-56. James responded with a three-point play with six minutes left, and Northwestern State never challenged again.

ST. JOHN'S 78, UMBC 57: Lamont Hamilton scored 19 points to lead host St. John's. Anthony Mason Jr. had a career-high 17 points and Avery Patterson added 16 for the Red Storm (4-3). Brian Hodges led Maryland-Baltimore County (3-4) with 19 points, and Mike Housman finished with 13.


TENNESSEE 89, MURRAY ST. 64: Chris Lofton scored 20, Wayne Chism added 13 to lead host Tennessee. Lofton made his first four attempts - all 3-pointers - in the first half when the Volunteers (6-2) led by as many as 18.


CORNELL 99, VMI 94: Louis Dale and Ryan Wittman each had 18 points to lead Cornell in the William & Mary Tip-Off Classic. The Big Red (4-3) had a total of seven players in double figures and kept host Virginia Military (3-6) to 36.4 percent from the field.

COPPIN ST. 69, LASALLE 68: Darryl Roberts hit a 3-pointer with 18.8 seconds left to lead Coppin State (2-5) at the Hawkeye Challenge, hosted by Iowa.

TOWSON 67, VERMONT 54: Gary Neal scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half. Tim Crossin added 13 points for host Towson (4-3), who had lost three of four.

NAVY 61, LONGWOOD 59 (OT): Greg Sprink had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Navy. Corey Johnson tied the score at 50 for the visiting Midshipmen (6-2) on a jump shot with 22 seconds left and made way for a 9-0 run early in overtime.

SANTA CLARA 71, ALABAMA ST. 45: Josh Higgins scored 17 to lead Santa Clara (5-2) in the Price Cutter Classic, hosted by Missouri State. Santa Clara outrebounded Alabama State 44-31.

San Francisco 71, SE Louisiana 56: Armondo Surratt hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead San Francisco in the Lou Henson Classic, hosted by New Mexico State. Surratt hit 4 of 6 3-pointers for the Dons (4-4).


WEST FLORIDA 74, SAINT LEO 71: The visiting Lions (2-3) got 17 points each from Alleo Frazier and Jordan Prais.


RICE 79, NO. 10 TEXAS A&M 66: Lauren Neaves had 20 points and 20 rebounds and Valeriy Berezhynska scored 21 points to lead Rice to an upset. The Owls (5-2) shot a season-best 58.5 percent from the field.

NO. 14 ARIZONA ST. 73, BOSTON UNIVERSITY 53: Danielle Orsillo scored 19 points to lead host No. 14 Arizona State (6-1) in the first round of the ASU Classic.

FLORIDA 62, SOUTH ALABAMA 50: Sha Brooks scored a game-high 17 points while Depree Bowden added her first career double-double to lead visiting Florida. Bowden recorded 10 points with a career-high 15 rebounds.

WEST GEORGIA 42, SAINT LEO 40: Guard Roni Carithers scored 10 for visiting Saint Leo (2-5), which was outrebounded 46-33.

NORTH FLORIDA 66, SPC 56: Sophomore Kelly Westfield scored 24 for St. Petersburg College (2-8) at the JUCO Shootout in Ocala.
