Clearwater

Nichols, Verna "Vern," 81, of Clearwater, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2006) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was born in Chicago and came here from Winter Park. She was a homemaker and previously taught at St. Cecelia Catholic School. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Charles A.; a son, Douglas J., Acworth, Ga.; three daughters, Jacalyn N. Kolk, Panama City, Laurel E. Westrook, Crawfordville, and Margaret N. "Peggy" Edwards, Belton, Texas; a brother, Joseph V. Vilcek, Joseph "Joe," 90, of Prince Frederick, Md., formerly of Clearwater, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2006). Survivors include a son, David; two daughters, Christine Harvat and Janet Korn; a brother, Frances Saunders; two sisters, Jenny Kotelas and Vera Mahoney; three grandchildren, Cindy and Robert Harvat and Lorraine Shepardson; and four great-grandchildren. Dunedin

Kranc, Helen Frances, 91, of Dunedin, died Friday (Dec. 1, 2006) at Mease Continuing Care.

She was born in Cataract, Wis., and came here in 1978 from Morton, Ill. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and a volunteer at the church thrift store. Survivors include a son, Stanley C., Tampa; a daughter, Susan Aldrich, Borden, Ind.; three grandchildren, Stanley, Jeffrey and Jonathan; and two great-grandchildren. Largo

Laughlen, Patricia E. "Pat," 76, of Largo, died Wednesday (Nov. 29, 2006) at Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center, Belleair.

She was born in Toronto and came here in 1971 from Minneapolis. She co-owned and operated Laughlin Electric in Largo, where she worked as secretary and treasurer. She was Protestant and participated in the Pocahontas Golf League at Indian Rocks Golf Course. She enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Donald "Don"; two sons, Kenneth, Durango, Colo., and Glen, Brooksville; a daughter, Susan Soprano, Cortland, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Scott and Dana Soprano. Leslak, Theresa S., 90, of Largo, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2006) at Oak Manor Nursing Center.

She came here in 1971 from her native Pittsburgh, where she retired as a trust officer for the Pittsburgh National Bank. She was Catholic and a volunteer at Largo Medical Center. Main, Anna Christine, 71, of Largo, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2006) at Morton Plant Hospital. She was born in Berlin, Germany, and came here in 2000 from Plano, Texas. She was a retired florist and a member of Church of the Isles Congregational, Indian Rocks Beach. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, William; a daughter, Carolyn Robertson, Fort Lauderdale; and three grandchildren, Amber Teno, Eddyville, Iowa, Andre Vandenberg, Horseshoe, N.C., and Ryan Robertson, Legion Field, Texas. Newman, Loretta "Retsy," 89, of Largo, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2006) at Palm Gardens of Largo.

She was born in Petersburg, Ky., and came here in 1988 from Florence, Ky. She worked for many years as a jewelry buyer for Coppins Department Store in Covington, Ky. She was a member of Starkey Road Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Charles; three daughters, Charletta Mink, Largo, Tammi Busby, Pinellas Park, and Ginny Mullins, Florence; a son, J.R., Largo; a brother, Lou Surface, Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sisters, Stella Ryle, Dunedin, and Deedie Snider, Mount Orab, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pezzner, Fay, 91, of Largo, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2006) at Sabal Palms Health Care Center. She came here in 1973 from her native Scranton, Pa., and was a retired bookkeeper for a health insurance company. She was a member of Temple B'Nai Israel, Clearwater. Survivors include two daughters, Elsa Bayman, Clearwater, and Brenda Katz, Jacksonville; four grandsons, Michael, Ron, Howard and Bruce; and eight great-grandchildren. David C. Palm Harbor

Donlon, William V., of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2006) in Palm Harbor. He came here from Lynbrook, N.Y., and formerly lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine Donlon Lipkins, Dolores Matthew and Patricia Donlon; a sister, Helen Geraghty; two grandchildren; and his companion, Susan Willman. Rozance, Theresa Ann, 78, of Palm Harbor, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2006) at home. She came here in 1986 from her native Cleveland. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church and the St. Luke Home Bound and Bridge Club. Survivors include her husband, Victor F.; a son, Victor F. Jr., Seminole; three daughters, Lisa Snook, Palm Harbor, Kyle Gregg, Clearwater, and Tracey Hillcren, Orlando; a brother, Thomas L. Safety Harbor

Underwood, Orville J., 86, of Safety Harbor, died Friday (Dec. 1, 2006) at Evergreen Manor under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

He was born in Round Grove Township, Minn., moved here in 1957 from Hopkins, Minn., and later came as a winter resident from Newland, N.C. He retired as an electrical design engineer after 43 years with Honeywell. He was a member, deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Safety Harbor and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was active in bridge championship tournaments, enjoyed bowling and was active as a scorer and timer and previously taught with the Sports Car Club of America. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy McAllister, Clearwater; a son, Gary J., Port Republic, Md.; a brother, Milan, Park Rapids, Minn.; five grandchildren, Tamera Hanson, Robert, Warren and William Bare and Patricia Burd; and 11 great-grandchildren. Seminole

Levinstein, Mildred, 83, of Seminole, died Friday (Dec. 1, 2006) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, St. Petersburg. She came here in 1972 from her native St. Louis. She was a homemaker. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed flowers. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Paul; a son, Steven J., Seminole; a daughter, Marcia I. Schupbach, Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandsons, Eric Schupbach, Isleworth, England, and Jason Schupbach, Boston. David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Beth David Chapel, St. Petersburg.
