A Gulfport man died Sunday after a crash involving two motorcycles and an SUV that threw him from his scooter and trapped him under the auto.
Charles D. Neeley, 26, died at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after the 12:40 p.m. wreck at 49th Street N and 54th Avenue N in Pinellas Park.
Neeley, of 2620 Beach Blvd., wasn't wearing a helmet, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities say Neeley was hit by a Suzuki Vitara as he tried to make a left turn off 54th Avenue N onto 49th Street.
Authorities said witnesses told them that Juan C. Perez, 17, of 5472 48th Ave. N, drove the Vitara through a red light.
James and Sue Morrow, who were on motorcycles following Neeley, also were involved in the wreck, the FHP said.
Perez was uninjured. James and Sue Morrow were taken to Northside Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Charges against Perez are pending. The investigation wasn't complete Sunday night, said Trooper Larry Coggins. He said it appears that the Morrows and Neeley knew one another.
