Driver kills freshman in crosswalk

Family members, above, grieve Monday as they go into Brandon High School after a 15-year-old freshman was hit by a car while crossing Victoria Street in front of the school. About 7:15 a.m., Camden White, left, who had recently transferred to the school, was in a crosswalk on the street, where the speed limit is 35 mph, school officials and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Westbound traffic stopped but an eastbound car driven by Kami Bell, 22, a substitute teacher on her way to Colson Elementary School, hit him. State law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Local & State, 1B
