In January, Sister Marie Cella put out a call at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clearwater for all knitters to make Christmas gifts for nursing home residents. The response: more than 260 lap covers and booties. On Monday, the church's outreach program delivered some of those gifts to Largo's East Bay Nursing Center.
East Bay Nursing Center resident Marsha Greenland, 60, is overjoyed to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus (Bernie and Doris Dress of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church) in Largo on Monday.
Santa is framed in a mirror at the nursing center while handing out gifts to the residents as part of the St. Catherine's outreach program.
Mrs. Claus waves and sends holiday greetings to a resident. Mrs. Claus, her hubby and their helpers handed out lap covers and booties to the residents. A donation of $500 went to purchase socks for the male patients.
Knowing that she has several more days before the big night, Mrs. Claus takes time to mingle with the residents.
After finishing their duties, Mrs. Claus and outreach program volunteer Mitzie Jorgenson relax in the lobby of the nursing center.
