Artists lend designs for 2006 ornaments

The Hernando County Tourist Development Council is now selling 2006 Christmas ornaments. Two ornaments are available, each depicting works by local artists.

The city of Brooksville ornament was designed by Anthony Palamaro of Brooksville, a potraitist and graphic designer. The ornament celebrates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Brooksville.

The Hernando County ornament was designed by Meagan Eng, a ninth-grade student at Central High School. Meagan's design is of the historic Lake Lindsey Mall and Deli.

A limited number of ornaments have been signed and numbered by the artists. The cost is $15 each, plus tax. Standard ornaments (unsigned) are available for $10, plus tax.

Foundation's concert is for a good cause

Kids Helping Kids SJD Children's Foundation will present A Christmas Story concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Masaryktown Community Center, 539 Lincoln Ave.

Local children will perform in the show, which tells the story of a young girl's dream and the true meaning of Christmas.

Donations will be accepted and given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Kids Helping Kids is a nonprofit charity founded by siblings Shawn and Jessica Doolittle of Spring Hill. Shawn, 14, and Jessica, 10, began performing concerts to raise funds for needy children.

Event features prizes, after-party with Santa

Florida Star USA Pageants will present a Happy Holidays 2006 Children's Pageant and Baby Contest from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 17 at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd.

The event will include a traditional beauty pageant, dancing and entertainment acts, and trophies and prizes for all contestants, as well as an after-party with Santa.

Spaces are still available for contestants. The basic entry fee is $49, and optional categories are available. Entries should be received by Dec. 15.

Admission for audience members is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

The pageant is a benefit for Toys for Tots and all participants and attendees are asked to bring a new toy. For information, call Stephanie Sims at 678-9588.
