For 20 years, ASAP Homeless Services has provided food, clothing and shelter to St. Petersburg's homeless people. During the Christmas season, clients and friends of ASAP have caroled through the streets of St. Petersburg in support of ASAP's work.
On Friday, supporters and residents will celebrate ASAP's work with the 20th annual "Still No Room at the Inn" Carol Sing. The carolers will begin at 7 p.m. at the ASAP Drop-in Center, 423 11th Ave. S, and go to homeless shelters and a nursing home. They will end at 9 p.m. in Straub Park.
The event is a reminder for residents that 2,000 years after the first Christmas, there is "still no room at the inn" for homeless people.
ASAP Homeless Services is a grass-roots organization that operates a shelter for homeless women, children and families, and a drop-in center with food, showers, clean clothes and job opportunities for homeless men and women. This year's caroling will feature a cookout, a birthday cake and a performance by a local singing group.
Friends of the ASAP Drop-in Center will provide dinner for carolers and ASAP shelter residents before the caroling, from 5-6:30 p.m. The Salvador Dali Museum will provide parking. The Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club will offer treats at the end.
