District to mark inclusive progress

More than 8,000 students in Marion County Public Schools have disabilities. To celebrate the progress Marion County Public Schools has made in using inclusive methods to ensure a quality education to all students, regardless of background or need, the district is participating this week in the sixth annual National Inclusive Schools Week. This year's theme is: "Charting an Inclusive Journey through School, Work, and Life: Successful Transition Planning for All Students." Inclusive schools and communities guide students along a personalized and supportive path, ensuring smoother transitions and, ultimately, success. During this week, the district will highlight resources and literature parents can use to prepare students to successfully handle transitions, as well as various tools to teach self-advocacy and self-determination skills. For information, contact Rose Cohen in the Equity Assurance Office of Marion County Public Schools at 352.671.6305. You can also log on to www.inclusiveschools.org.
