Brookridge Helping Hands Craft Fair: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9, Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St. There will also be a bake sale, quilt raffle and art displays. Funds raised will go toward the purchase of supplies. The Helping Hands sews and crochets items for patients served by hospices, the Linus Project, veterans hospitals, nursing homes and the local children's shelter. Call 597-7682.

Brooksville Band Shell Bash and Cruise-In: 4 to 8 p.m., Hernando Park, 205 E Fort Dade Ave., Brooksville. This is a free outdoor concert with family-friendly entertainment. The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will perform a holiday concert, which will include three tenors. There will also be a bell choir, the Spring Hill Bible Church Choir and an audience participation sing-along.

Hernando County Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony: 7 p.m., old courthouse steps, Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. County and city elected officials will conduct the countdown and lighting of the Christmas tree.

"I Have Seen the Light" Christmas Musical: 7 p.m., Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mount Fair Ave., Brooksville. The show is under the direction of Lee Gordon and includes the adult, youth and children's choirs from the church. Free. 596-3184 or 796-2418.

Jazz Under the Stars: 3 to 8 p.m., New Hope Missionary Baptist Church grounds, 14236 County Line Road, on the Hernando-Pasco county border. Musicians include Mike MacArthur, Arthur Hallett, Unity and the Northenders. Food vendors will be on site. Face painting will be provided from 3 to 4 p.m. Games and activities will include moon walks, pool, air hockey, pingpong and movies. Oplatek Traditional Polish Christmas Party: Doors open at 2:30 p.m., dinner at 3:30 p.m., VFW Post 10209, 15166 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. Hosted by the Polish Legion of American Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary, Walter Weiss Memorial Post. Dinner includes a herring appetizer, a golabi entree, pierogi, kielbasa and sauerkraut, rye bread, a glass of wine, and kryzcziki and poppy seed cake for dessert. Polish and American dance music provided by the Bee-Sharps from 5 to 8 p.m. A cash bar is available. There will be a communal tree decoration, singing of Polish and American Christmas carols, a visit by St. Nick and the sharing of the Oplatek (Christmas wafer). Poinsettia Planting at Waterfall Entrance: 9 a.m. to noon, at the waterfall entrance on Spring Hill Drive at Commercial Way, Spring Hill. Girl Scouts Event at Camp Indian Echo: 1 to 5:30 p.m., Camp Indian Echo, off Hudson Avenue, Hudson. Open to girls in kindergarten through third grade. There will be games, crafts and activities, as well as a visit from Santa. The cost is $10 for girls who are not members of the Girl Scouts. The fee, though, includes membership for 2006-07.
