Hooker suspect hits snag: Brooksville's police chief

Brooksville Police Chief Ed Tincher doesn't pick up prostitutes, but Andrea Young didn't know that.

On Thursday, the 29-year veteran of the force and mainstay of this small town was driving by the BP gas station at 101 Ponce de Leon Blvd.

Young waved him down and offered a menu of sexual services.

"Let me call my wife and see what she says," Tincher told her.

Instead, he called the police station.

Lt. Rick Hankins arrived in an unmarked car, but Young knew it was a police car. She asked Tincher if she could get inside his SUV.

As she was opening the door, Hankins caught up to her and asked what she was doing.

"Nothing," Young said. "This man here is going to take me to my mother's house."

"This man?" Hankins asked.

When she saw Tincher's badge and gun, she let out a curse.

Young, of the 700 block of West Jefferson Street, was arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution. She is being held at the Hernando County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

"She did everything but cuff herself," Tincher said.
