The Outback Bowl is officially a sellout. Outback Bowl officials announced Thursday the only tickets left for the New Year's Day game between Penn State and Tennessee are those sent to the schools. Both said they will use all of their allotment, making it the sixth sellout in the past seven years.

Judge stops sale of historic baseball

A DuPage (lll.) County judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing Mastro Auctions from selling a baseball signed by Babe Ruth for a young Ted Williams. The inscription reads, "To My Pal Ted Williams - From Babe Ruth." The ball was signed during the 1940s, after Ruth retired and early in Williams' career. In 1994, Williams said, "It's the only time I've ever asked for an autograph." The ball was stolen in the 1980s, and his family did not know its whereabouts until daughter Claudia learned of its sale this week.

Woman allegedly extorted QB great

A woman was arrested on charges she sent letters to Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr to extort $2-million from him, according to the San Antonio News-Express. Authorities contend Ruby Y. Young, 81, alleges a vague encounter with Starr in 1960. But Starr, 72, denies knowing the woman, according to an affidavit. One letter, allegedly written by Young and dated Oct. 30, 2006, said, "And now, the time has come for you to pay - to pay for the many injuries you cause me. ... No I am not a push-over Mr. Starr - and no, I do not need the money - but I intend to see that you pay for your wrong doings (sic) to me. How much is it worth to preserve this 'image' presented to the public these many years of who and what you are.''

Only 38 passes? That's nothing!

The Washington Post's Michael Wilbon on Redskins QB Jason Campbell and Sunday's loss:

"How, in good conscience, could (offensive coordinator) Al Saunders or Joe Gibbs (and whoever else might have called plays) allow a kid making his third NFL start to throw 38 passes? Coaches talk all the time about how they must put players in position to do well. How does asking a newborn quarterback to throw 38 times work to his advantage?"

Wonder what Wilbon thinks of Jon Gruden calling 48 passes for Bruce Gradkowski in his fourth start.
