The Hernando Beach Club will host the following events:
* Breakfast With Santa, 10 a.m. today. A light breakfast will be served, and there will be games and surprises. The cost is $4 for adults and $1 for children. All proceeds will be given to the Shriners. Those attending are asked to bring a gift (suggested value is $10) for each child they are bringing. Reservations are required.
* Old-Fashioned Christmas Party, Friday. Doors open at 5 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Holiday music will be provided by the Just Us Duo. There will also be door prizes and raffles. People attending are asked to bring an unwrapped gift for a boy or girl, which will be given to needy children. Tickets are $12 for members and $14 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.
* Open House, Dec. 16. Doors open at 6 p.m. Visitors can watch the Hernando Beach Yacht Club's Christmas Boat Parade from ringside seats at the club, as well as tour the newly renovated clubhouse. Club members answer questions about membership and upcoming activities. The lounge will be open, and hot dogs and chips will be served. Those attending can bring lawn chairs for the Christmas parade.

Stage West puts on holiday cantata
A Christmas production and cantata will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd.
This is a free show provided by Journey Christian Center and Spring Hill United Church of Christ.

Dinner scheduled at St. Theresa church
The Knights of Columbus, St. Theresa Council 11877, will host a dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the parish hall at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way.

Christmas concert to benefit children
Kids Helping Kids SJD Children's Foundation will present "A Christmas Story" concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Masaryktown Community Center, 539 Lincoln Ave.
Local children will perform in the show, which tells the story of a young girl's dream and the true meaning of Christmas.
Donations will be accepted, which will be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Kids Helping Kids is a nonprofit charity founded by siblings Shawn and Jessica Doolittle of Spring Hill. Shawn, 14 and Jessica, 10, began performing concerts to raise funds for children.

Fundraiser golf tourney on Jan. 1
A memorial fundraiser golf tournament is planned for Jan. 1 at Quail Ridge Golf Course on Shady Hills Road.
The event is to benefit the family of Peter Alberghina of Spring Hill, who died in August at age 47 from complications of diabetes. Funds raised will benefit Alberghina's wife, Ann, and their two children.
The golf tournament is a four-person scramble. A shotgun start will be at 12:30 p.m. There will be a hot buffet meal after the tournament and a raffle with prizes. There will also be contests for longest drive, closest to the hole on par 3 holes, and putting for men and women.

Four-day holiday basketball clinic
The Hernando County Recreation Department will offer a holiday basketball clinic for kids 14 and younger.
The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 2-5 in the gymnasium at Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics, 13400 Elgin Blvd.
The clinic is limited to the first 60 registrants. The cost is $60, plus a $10 registration fee. Extended care hours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. for an additional $10. A camp shirt is included.

Get behind the scenes of county government
Registration is open for the January session of the County Connection program, which will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 18 through March 15. The sessions will be conducted at various county facilities.
County Connection provides participants an opportunity for a "behind the scenes" look into county government.
Each session covers a series of topics pertaining to county services, such as transportation issues, public safety, the budget, recreation and resources, judicial services, growth and development, health and utilities services.
The program includes audience interaction and allows participants to get answers to their questions and meet county officials.
There is no cost to participate.

Bingo Bash taking reservations now
The Brookridge Woman's Club is taking reservations for the annual Bingo Bash that will be March 10 at the clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St.
The cost is $35, which includes a doughnut, a homemade hot lunch, coffee and ice tea.
Full payment is required by February.
The bash will have a $3,200 payout.

Library bookstore has special holiday hours
SPRING HILL - The Friends of the Library Bookstore will have special holiday evening hours Monday through Dec. 16. The bookstore, at 1208 Kenlake Ave., will be open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening during the Angels on High event next door at the Lake House.
The bookstore's regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Girl Scout event is Sunday at camp
Area girls in kindergarten through third grade are invited to an event hosted by Girl Scouts of Suncoast Council from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Camp Indian Echo, off Hudson Avenue.
There will be games, crafts and activities, as well as a visit from Santa. The cost is $10 for girls who are not members of the Girl Scouts, which includes membership for 2006-07.

Tourist council selling Christmas ornaments
The Hernando County Tourist Development Council is now selling the 2006 Christmas ornaments. Two ornaments are available, each depicting works by local artists. The city of Brooksville ornament, designed by Anthony Palamaro of Brooksville, a portraitist and graphic designer, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Brooksville.
The Hernando County ornament was designed by Meagan Eng, a ninth-grade student at Central High School. Meagan's design is of the historic Lake Lindsey Mall and Deli.
A limited number of ornaments have been signed and numbered by the artists. The cost of these is $15 each, plus tax. Standard ornaments (unsigned) are available for $10, plus tax.

Audubon Society schedules bird count

The Arc Nature Coast's Holiday Open House will be Dec. 15 at the Arc, 5283 Neff Lake Road, east of Brooksville.

Enrichment centers recruiting members
Oak Hill Hospital's Spring Hill and Brooksville enrichment centers are recruiting members. The centers offer numerous activities, such as exercise, yoga, duplicate bridge, pinochle, Mexican train dominoes, quilting, clogging, line dancing, painting, Scrabble and Spanish lessons. The centers are also meeting places for a variety of support groups and clubs.
