Q: I keep getting this message and would like to know what it means and how to solve it: "The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL c:32occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

A: This is an issue for users who have Realtek HD Audio Control Panel, ElsterFormular, TUGZip or CD-Tag applications installed. The problem started showing up after Microsoft security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008). The Hhctrl.ocx and User32.dll files from these updates had conflicting base addresses, which is what is generating the error message. Q: Pressing the button on the CD drive opens the slot to put in a CD, but it no longer opens the slot to remove the CD. I have gotten around this by going to My Computer, right-clicking the CD drive, then selecting Eject. Now the problem is that the files on the CD remain in memory after the CD is removed. The computer has to be restarted or turned off to clear the files from memory. Is there any way to clear CD files from memory so another CD can be used without doing a Restart? Is the CD drive going bad?

A: I'm not sure what you mean by "remaining in memory." If the File Explorer doesn't update showing the new CD files, try doing a View, Refresh from the menu bar (or just press F5). It's possible that the release mechanism on your CD is defective. Most CD trays have an emergency slot that can be used to force it open. It is a small hole close to the eject button. Insert the end of a pin in the hole and the CD tray should open.

Q: I think I have a virus on my computer. It will not open to the usual startup menu; rather, it goes to system administrator and asks for my password. I can't open User Account to add accounts. It reads, "Can't find Windows system32 rundll32.exe." Before this happened, I renewed my virus protection and run it all the time.

A: I can't be sure whether you have a virus. Try this: Go back to a point before you started experiencing this problem using System Restore. Click Start, click All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Follow the instructions on the wizard. If not successful, or if there wasn't a valid restore point to which to go back, try the System File Checker : Click Start, Run, type CMD and click OK. This will bring you to a Command prompt. Type SFC /SCANNOW and hit Enter. (Make sure you leave a space between SFC and /SCANNOW.) You may need to have your Windows XP source CD. If your problem remains, try contacting your antivirus vendor with more specific details. A reinstall of Windows XP would be a last resort.
