A metal storage building at the Tampa Police Department's impound lot caught fire Sunday. An employee noticed the fire at 5:15 p.m., Tampa police spokesman Brian Dugan said.
The building at 110 N 34th St. is used to store property that might later be auctioned off.
Police also stored evidence there, but not that of high-priority cases such as murder or narcotics violations, Dugan said.
Tampa Fire Rescue units had the fire under control within an hour, but investigators will likely have to wait until today to uncover the full extent of the damage, he said.
