Tampa police have not yet charged the driver who hit him.

The groom who was run over outside a Tampa bar two weeks ago after his bachelor's party remains hospitalized and heavily sedated, according to his family, and has not yet been interviewed by police.

Meanwhile, detectives have asked prosecutors to decide whether to file charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injury against the St. Petersburg man who investigators say ran over the man a few days before his wedding.

Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said detectives have asked the State Attorney's Office to review the case and consider bringing charges against Brandon French, 22.

Police say French was driving his friend Justin Moseley's Lexus sport utility vehicle July 11 shortly after 3 a.m. when he ran over Frederick "Buck" Williams, 22, of Largo, in front of Tampa's 2001 Odyssey strip club on N Dale Mabry Highway.

Williams was there celebrating his bachelor party before a July 14 wedding, his fiancee said.

As French and Moseley, 25, drove away, headed for Pinellas County, Williams lay injured with two broken legs. He has been in St. Joseph's Hospital since, emerging last week from days in an induced coma.

Fiancee Deanna Cox, 21, said Williams has improved, and is talking and breathing on his own.

Williams' mother, Alica Reynolds, of Fort Wayne, Ind., has been at his bedside since the accident. She said the prospect of charges in the case is no consolation.

"I'm just as puzzled today as I was yesterday,'' she said.

She said based on her discussions with people who were there, "it was a very vicious, blatant act,'' involving racial slurs.

Moseley and French told the St. Petersburg Times that the incident started after Williams criticized the Lexus, then punched Moseley. Moseley, they said, ran away and Williams chased him.

They said the chase veered back and forth, and French was trying to pick Moseley up when he struck Williams. The two men called police later to report what happened.
