CARES Senior Enrichment Centers: The August schedule for each center - in Elfers, Hudson and New Port Richey - in is now available online at www.caresfl.org. On the left side of the home page, under the listing of services, click on "Senior Enrichment Centers." When the page opens, you can select the particular center.

Come sing along: 7 p.m. Tuesdays in August. The Suncoast Harmony Chorus, West Central Florida Chapter of Sweet Adelines International, welcomes visitors who like to sing. The group's rehearsals are in the Gulf High School Chorus Room, 5335 School Road in New Port Richey. Redeemed Treasures Thrift Shop: The store, affiliated with the Faith United Methodist Church at 13123 U.S. 19, Hudson, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. All but 15 percent of proceeds goes back into church and mission programs. The store supports local programs, such as Clothes for Kids and Dress for Success. Call (727) 863-6742.

Long-term care ombudsman program: Volunteers are needed to join dedicated advocates who protect the rights of elders in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family care homes. The program is comprised of 17 local councils throughout Florida. Volunteers are needed to identify, investigate and resolve elder concerns. All interested individuals who care about protecting the health, safety, welfare and rights of long-term care residents who often have no one else to advocate for them are encouraged to enlist. Hike for Gulfside Regional Hospice: Gulfside Regional Hospice will hold its first "Hike for Hospice," a 5K and 2.5K walk, on Nov. 10 in Sims Park and downtown New Port Richey. This very special walk is for anyone who has lost a loved one, not just hospice families. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast and a welcome from the city leaders at 8:30 a.m. The hike gets underway at 9 a.m. The purpose is to raise funds and awareness for Gulfside Regional Hospice.
