READY'S IMAGE TAKES SANFORD

Ready's Image gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first stakes win of Saratoga's season Thursday when the colt captured the $150,000 Sanford Stakes by 4 lengths over Tale of Ekati. The Roundhouse was third.

Ridden by John Velazquez, the bay colt scored his third victory in four starts by covering 6 furlongs in 1:09.90 over a fast track in the race for 2-year-olds.

Front-running Fed Watcher ran strongly to the turn but swung wide erratically down the stretch. Ready's Image then drew away.

"Our horse ran a big race, and he's bred to go long. So that's encouraging," said Pletcher, who plans to race Ready's Image next at the Sept. 3 Hopeful Stakes. "He was able to sit off a fast pace, and he's still learning. When he (took) the lead, he kind of pricked his ears and was looking around. So he has room to improve. And that's encouraging."
