Nicholas Financial Inc.

The Clearwater car finance company said revenue rose 7 percent for the fiscal first quarter but net income fell 8 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Receivables have continued to grow, but so have the cost of funds and write-offs for bad loans. The net charge-off percentage was an annualized 6.59 percent compared with 4.7 percent for the prior year.

Raymond James Bank

Parent Raymond James Financial's strategy of moving brokerage deposits into the bank and deploying them into high-quality loans is paying off. The St. Petersburg-based bank said net income rose 91 percent on a 131 percent increase in net revenue for the fiscal third quarter. Assets at the end of the quarter were $5.4-billion, up 156 percent.
