Free vision screenings will help kids, adults
Prevent Blindness Florida will conduct a free vision screening for adults and children from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Pinellas Park Health Center, 6350 76th Ave. N.
The screening will be conducted by nationally certified Prevent Blindness Florida staff and volunteers. Children are screened for risk for misaligned eyes and refractive errors, and adults are screened for risk for cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, as well as vision acuity.

School Board hearing will focus on budget
The Pinellas County School Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the district administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo.
Newly appointed administrators will be introduced, and a public hearing about the 2007-08 budget will begin at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend. Anyone wishing to speak on either agenda or nonagenda items can do so by filling out a form at or before the meeting.
Residents may speak about any item on the agenda not involving a hearing on employee discipline by registering five minutes before the item is introduced.
The meeting will be televised at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks following the meeting date. All broadcasts are shown on WPDS-Ch. 14, which also appears on Knology Ch. 14 and Bright House Networks Ch. 14.
Care Fair offers students shots, tests, supplies
Getting the school year off to a good start is important to students and their parents.
That's what the Junior League of St. Petersburg's Back-to-School Care Fair is all about.
That tradition continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Health Center, 1344 22nd St. S.
Free medical exams, immunizations, vision checks, dental screenings and backpacks filled with school supplies will be available to at-risk children in St. Petersburg's Midtown and Childs Park areas.
All children receiving services and supplies must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
