Jose Maldonado, 21, left, and his dog Tainina walk next to his boat after the Coast Guard rescued him, his brother and their dog off the Gandy Bridge on Saturday. Maldonado and Jorge Torres, 29, of Tampa were fishing northwest of the Gandy Bridge about 2:30 p.m. when a thunderstorm dumped so much water into their boat that it began to sink. Wearing life jackets, they jumped into the water and began to swim. "All I could think of was that bridge," Maldonado said. "I just wanted to make it to the bridge." They clung to the concrete pilings and waited. Petty Officer Sean Stone said the Coast Guard pulled in the men and their dog and brought the 16-foot boat to shore.
