HIGHWAY PATROL NAMES VICTIM OF FATAL CRASH

BROOKSVILLE

Florida Highway Patrol officials have released the name of the man who died Friday in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Citrus Way, north of Brooksville. Authorities said 72-year-old Denmar Shoemaker of Homosassa was westbound on Citrus Way when the 2003 Pontiac Bonneville he was driving entered the intersection and collided with a Ford F-350 pickup towing a 27-foot boat. Other passengers in the car, Colleen Hoffman, 55, John Sartin 63, and Jessica Sartin, 55, were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Three children and the pickup's driver, Tamara Slayton of Brooksville, were taken by ambulance to Brooksville Regional Hospital. As of Sunday, none of the victims' conditions was known.

Donate auction items to the annual Fur Ball

Sponsorships and donations of auction items are needed for the Humane Society of the Nature Coast's fourth annual Fur Ball, Sept. 29 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court. The event will include a cocktail hour and cash bar, buffet dinner, a silent auction and music for dancing provided by Cover to Cover. There will also be a show featuring the 4 Non-Breeders. Tickets to the ball are $75 per person. All proceeds will benefit homeless pets at the local Humane Society. Deadline nears for Angels in Adoption

Tuesday is the deadline to submit an application for the 2007 Angels in Adoption campaign. Nominees must be residents of the 5th Congressional District. Applications must be submitted to U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's office in Room 200 of the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. The winner will be invited to attend the Angels in Adoption gala Oct. 10 in Washington, D.C. The winner will be responsible for airfare and accommodations. The Angels in Adoption campaign is a national movement to raise awareness about adoption. Call 799-8354 or toll-free 1-866-492-4835.

Beach Club hosts open house dinner

The Hernando Beach Club invites nonmembers to attend one of its open house Friday night dinners. The cost for dinner is $8 to $10. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. The club is at 3145 Flamingo Blvd. Reservations are required by the Wednesday evening before the dinner. Call Bunni at 688-4976.
