AGENCY ON AGING TO HONOR CRIST AT ANNUAL GALA

Gov. Charlie Crist will be the guest of honor at CARES' Annual Benefit and Recognition Dinner on Sept. 24 at Spartan Manor. Making his first Pasco appearance since being elected governor, Crist will be honored "for the concern he has always shown for the welfare of elders in the state of Florida," said Bill Aycrigg, president/CEO of Community Aging and Retirement Services. The contributions of seniors will also be recognized, Aycrigg said. State Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, and Dr. Rao Musunuru are co-chairmen of the event; Secretary of State Kurt Browning will also attend. Sponsorship opportunities are available; proceeds will help support home care for the elderly and CARES-specialized support services. Town hall meeting called by Nelson

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson will have a town hall meeting at 2 p.m. Monday. Nelson, a Democrat, will speak with residents in the commission chambers of the West Pasco Government Center, 7530 Little Road.

Donate school supplies to kids

The Salvation Army's Center of Hope is collecting donations of school supplies for students in need. Items needed include pens, pencils, loose-leaf paper, notebooks, folders, crayons, markers, glue, calculators, student planners, binders and backpacks. Having the right supplies can help students feel good about staying - and succeeding - in school. Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Aug. 15 at the Center of Hope, 8040 Washington St., Port Richey, and at the Corps Community Center, 7745 Ridge Road.
