Police have identified a motorcyclist who died after colliding with an oncoming van as Leonard Patton of 604 13th Ave. NW in Largo. The accident took place at 3:47 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Bryant Street and Myrtle Avenue. Patton, 36, was heading south on Myrtle on a 2001 Harley-Davidson while a 1987 Dodge van driven by Darryl Hammond, 20, of Clearwater was going north. Both vehicles were traveling close to the center line of the road when Patton apparently tried to move to avoid the van, police said Tuesday. Patton apparently lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected, landing in the southbound lane of the road. His motorcycle then skidded into the northbound lane, where Hammond swerved to miss it. In doing so, Hammond's van went into the southbound lane and ran over Patton. Police said Hammond continued down the road to his home nearby, parked and walked back to the scene where he talked to investigators. No charges had been filed Tuesday and an investigation was continuing.

Three are arrested in home invasion
Police arrested three people Tuesday in connection with a home invasion where a Largo man was beaten and hog-tied in his mobile home, officials said. Jeremie Ulsh, 24, Mario McGriff, 24, and Pamela Grace, 29, were arrested in St. Petersburg. Police said the three would be charged with kidnapping and robbery. Ulsh also would be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, said Largo police Sgt. John Trebino. Trebino said the arrest was made possible through tips from the public. Stephen Mason, 56, who lives at Avalon Travel Trailer Park, 16860 U.S. 19 N, near Whitney Road, was punched in the ribs, his legs and arms were tied with phone cord and his mouth was stuffed with a sock Monday night, police said. His attackers made off with Mason's gold 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, his cell phone and a few other items, police said. Police responded after neighbors heard Mason's screams. He had been there about an hour.
