Lowry Park's beer-soaked fundraiser WaZoo was lauded in 2004 by USA Today as one of the top 10 beer festivals in the country. Record crowds each year seem to agree.
With more than 200 beverages from around the world, it isn't just about beer on Saturday. There also will be a wine garden (for $10 extra), food from a couple of dozen bay area restaurants and live music on several stages.
Last year, more than 4,000 people attended, so expect crowds. This event isn't for kids, and most of the exhibits will be off-limits, although a few "animal ambassadors'' will be on hand.
Visit www.ratebeer.com or www.beeradvocate.com to bone up on your beer knowledge, since this is a beer tasting, not a kegger. And it often rains, so leave the silk party frocks at home.
WaZoo is from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the zoo, 1101 W Sligh Ave., Tampa. Tickets are $65 online, $70 by phone, $75 at the door; $20 for designated drivers. Call (813) 935-8552, ext. 276; or go to www.lowryparkzoo.com.
