bank robber is the suspect in 9 other holdups
The man who robbed the GTE Federal Credit Union in Trinity on Wednesday may have committed as many as 10 bank robberies in the area since April 20, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. In addition to Wednesday's robbery, there have been two in Wesley Chapel, one in Zephyrhills, two in Ocala, three in Hillsborough County and one in Cape Coral. He usually carries a knife, places a day planner or a three-ring binder on the counter and hands a note to the teller. He was last seen in a green sedan, possibly a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Chris Beaman toll-free at 1-800-854-2862, ext. 7841.
Police captain to fill in as chief
David Duff, Dade City police operations captain, will act as the city's temporary police chief. Phillip Thompson, who is retiring, served his last day as chief Wednesday. The temporary assignment does not merit Duff any extra pay. "He's managing the department as he's done in the past when the chief has been on vacation or out of the office," said interim City Manager Jim Class. Class said he will look into appointing a formal interim chief in the next few weeks. City commissioners will interview candidates for permanent city manager on Aug. 9. The new city manager will appoint the new permanent police chief, Class said.
