HOME IS THE SOLDIER

The remains of Army Sgt. William R. Howdeshell, 37, who was killed by an improvised explosive device July 26 in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, came home to Pinellas County on Thursday. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Born in Springfield, Ill., he was 8 when his family moved to Texas in search of work. They moved to Largo when he was a teenager. Howdeshell ultimately joined Job Corps, a federal training program, and then enlisted in the Navy - fulfilling his dream of entering the military. He had served in the Navy and then the Army for about a decade. Story, 4B
