FRIDAY'S IRAQ DEVELOPMENTS

Courts: A jury in Camp Pendleton, Calif., sentenced Marine Sgt. Lawrence G. Hutchins III to 15 years in prison for the murder of an Iraqi civilian during a search for an insurgent in Hamdania in April 2006.

U.S. deaths: Three soldiers were killed Thursday in a roadside bombing in Baghdad and a fourth was killed in combat Thursday in western Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Violence: In Najaf another aide to Shiite spiritual leader Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani was gunned down. Fadhil al-Akil, 35, was the fourth aide to Sistani to be killed. At least four other people were killed, and 18 unidentified bodies were found across the country.

Capture: Iraqi police announced they had captured a senior member of al-Qaida in Iraq who is believed to be connected with the bombing of a historic Shiite shrine in Samarra last month.
