One construction worker is dead and another hospitalized after authorities say a Dade City man plowed through a barricade on a Citrus County stretch of U.S. 19 about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. The driver was Joshua Church, 22, of 32262 Marchmont Circle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The FHP said Church was headed north on U.S. 19, near U.S. 98, when he failed to merge left for highway construction, instead crashing his Ford Taurus through orange barrels and hitting the two men working behind them. Christopher Sloan, 37, of Morriston, died at the scene, according to the FHP. Robert Nell, 30, of Belleview, was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. Church was not hurt. "It's driver error no matter how you look at it," said FHP Trooper Larry Coggins Jr. Charges may be filed, pending an investigation.
