HIGHER EDUCATION

Lee Anna Avila, 21, daughter of Sam and Diane Maiolo, and Katie Wells, daughter of Thomas and Betsy Wells, received the Girl Scout Gold Award for their efforts in initiating a schoolwide recycling program for both campuses of the Canterbury School of Florida. They worked with the city of St. Petersburg to place and service bins for recycling paper and gave presentations to faculty and students on the benefits of recycling. The program will be supported and carried out by every 10th grade class at Canterbury. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouts.

Adam Jacob Catz, son of Jeffrey Catz of Largo and Jeanne Lewis of Seminole, received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida. He is a 2004 graduate of Seminole High School and will enter the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in the fall.

Kayla Harris, daughter of Kevin and Louise Harris of St. Petersburg, and a 2003 graduate of St. Petersburg High School International Baccalaureate program, received a bachelor of science degree in public relations with an outside concentration in psychology from the University of Florida. She graduated summa cum laude and earned the Outstanding Public Relations Scholar Award. She also received the Dean's Cup for Scholarship. She is the public relations manager for Actors' Playhouse in Miami.
