Seminole tribe officer charged with DUI
A Seminole tribe police officer was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Tampa police officer stopped him on Hillsborough Ave. Tuesday afternoon, according to an arrest report. The officer said he observed a black truck speeding and crossing lanes several times. After pulling it over, he noticed the driver had "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech,'' according to the Tampa police arrest affidavit. Police arrested Derek C. Floyd, 29, of Brandon. Jail records list his occupation as a Seminole police officer, and say his blood alcohol test showed a content of about 0.16, twice the level at which impairment is assumed under Florida law.
