A slide show featured in the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth will be shown at the St. Pete Beach Library this weekend. Jane Maxwell, a volunteer with the Nashville-based Climate Project, will review the basic concepts of the film and answer questions on global warming. In addition, attendees will receive a list of easy, money-saving steps for improving the environment. The Friends of the Library is donating An Inconvenient Truth in book and DVD formats for door prizes.

Free Saturday films for kids at Beach Theatre

The Beach Theatre is offering free movies for kids Saturday mornings. This Saturday's scheduled film is The Goonies.

The library has a new service for cardholders: downloadable audio books. Folks with St. Pete Beach Public Library cards can check out a wide range of books, including fiction, biographies and memoirs, self-help titles, foreign language study texts and more. The audio books can be played on home computers and any MP3-powered device (but not iPods). The circulation period for the downloads is seven days.

New skate park open at community center

St. Pete Beach's new skate park, which was designed with input from local skateboarding enthusiasts, is now open at the community center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive. The park features picnic benches and ramps for skaters. It's open seven days a week.

Saturday market offers music, fresh food, art

Suntan Art Center and the city of St. Pete Beach are hosting a year-round Saturday Market Place.

Shoppers enjoy live music while browsing for fresh-baked goods, produce, handcrafted art and more.

When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Where: St. Pete Beach Recreation Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.
