A woman who was accused of trying to drive home drunk from a restaurant with her 9-year-old daughter pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge Tuesday and received 10 days in jail. Michelle Angst, 32, drew attention after a February incident in which Seminole Assistant Fire Chief Michael Wallace convinced her daughter to get out of Angst's car outside a Macaroni Grill at 2302 Tyrone Blvd. N. and contacted police. Prosecutors with the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney's Office said they were disappointed by Judge John Carballo's sentence. "We let the court know that we wanted 270 days," prosecutor Erin Whittemore said.
St. Petersburg man convicted in porn case
A federal jury found a St. Petersburg man guilty of attempting to produce child pornography Tuesday. Samuel Darryl Matthews, 54, is facing a mandatory 35-year prison sentence because this is his third conviction on sex crime charges involving children. According to court testimony, Matthews became obsessed with the 11-year-old sister of his roommate's god-daughter. He began asking the roommate to take naked pictures of her. The roommate contacted law enforcement in May and an FBI task force set up a sting operation with a Hillsborough County sheriff's detective posing as the mother of an 11-year-old girl. U.S. District Judge Richard Lazzara is scheduled to sentence Matthews on Oct. 19.
